Student Affairs at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Community Garden Assistant to assist with all aspects of operating, maintaining and improving the Auburn University community garden!

Essential Functions
  • Perform weekly physical maintenance of major pathways in the garden and perimeter (weed whacking, mowing, mulching). With guidance from garden manager: maintain and repair garden tools, inspect and repair irrigation pipes, poison anthills and wasp/hornet hives, till vacant or newly-rented plots, and other maintenance-oriented responsibilities.
  • As time and interests allow, initiate and coordinate special projects for garden improvement (signage, shelter, landscaping, community-related events, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Auburn University graduate student.

Expectations:
  • Open to all majors; preference given to majors in horticulture, plant science, agriculture, environmental science, biology, or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ornamental and/or food gardening, use of basic garden equipment (mowers, weed whackers).
  • Good interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse community gardeners, ability to support garden manager in leading orientation sessions and work days, enthusiasm and desire to grow the community gardening efforts on campus.
Pay Rate $10.00/hour
Work Hours 20 - 40
