Job Summary
The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s Chemical Engineering department is seeking candidates for a Research Associate position. The candidate requires a strong back ground and experience in the preparation, characterization and application of flocculants and adsorbents in wastewater treatment.

This role will be responsible for the development and optimization of novel flocculants and adsorbents , design and conduct experiment, work with internal and external partners to ensure the efficient progress of projects and guide graduate students for research. The individual is expected to independently identify and solve research problems through novel scientific approaches, demonstrate high technoeconomic awareness and sensitivity.

Essential Functions
  • Develop or assist in the development of novel flocculants and adsorbents for wastewater treatment.

  • Design and execute experiment plans and monitor processes to ensure consistency and reliability.

  • Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work including writing research reports and delivering publications.

  • Lab management including lab safety and lab organization, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Guide graduate students to conduct research in the field of wastewater treatment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I: Masters degree in discipline appropriate to position and no experience.

Level II: Masters degree in discipline appropriate to position and 2 years experience.

Level III: Masters degree in discipline appropriate to position and 4 years experience, including at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Level IV: Masters degree in discipline appropriate to position and 6 years experience, including at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities
Degree in content specific area of research.

Extensive knowledge of flocculants and absorbents in wastewater treatment.

Strong experience in advanced analytic techniques, especially in HPLC, GC and GC/MS.

Good experimental design and data analysis capabilities.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
